The carnival-like procession strains upwards as well as onwards, seeming to reach towards the tops of the surrounding tall buildings and outshining them with its vivid colours.

The gorse gradually intensifies while the winter bracken lingers for many months leading to an interplay of warm colours against the cool tones of the Atlantic beyond.

The sense of community suggested for me by the sight, from a nearby hilltop of the town rooftops where I live in Cornwall's most westerly town, was something I wanted to celebrate through a range of warm colour and varied shapes.

The surrounding ocean on three sides of the Lands End peninsula acts like a giant mirror creating an ambient light that inspired this piece.

Low afternoon light on a bright winter day gave a deceptive warmth of colour to the landscape but a chilly breeze made for ragged clouds and this interplay led to the idea for this piece.
